This Death Note and SpongeBob Crossover is Too Perfect

Stay on target

There are good crossovers, and there are great crossovers. We’re not talking about those terrible shirts where an anime or pop culture reference is mashed up for some sort of humorous design. We’re talking some of the best, like what’s been done with Death Note and SpongeBob SquarePants by some talented soul who we may never be able to truly identify. In this case, the two animated series join together in ways you may not have been able to see coming. One follows an underwater sponge who has hilarious antics, and the other a megalomaniacal high school student who can kill anyone he wants using a notebook called a Death Note.
One fan took SpongeBob’s animated antics about trying to get some writing done to heart and combined it with a pivotal scene from Death Note, creating one of the funniest scenes we’ve seen yet in a fan edit. The edit positions SpongeBob in Death Note character Light Yagami’s shoes and finds him saying all of Light’s Japanese lines with subtitles to make it look like SpongeBob is really going off the deep end.

Then, we see SpongeBob scribbling something down on paper — presumably the “death note” that’s actually a piece of paper in the actual cartoon, and mumbling about how much he wants to purify the world and get rid of all the evil within it. SpongeBob begins re-enacting the song “Bodies” by Drowning Pool and decides to off characters like Squidward and Mr. Krabs, and it may be one of the funniest things to ever happen to either series.
Check out the mashup above courtesy of Twitter, but beware — you may not see either series in the same way ever again.
